The drive to Falcon Point from Denver can be an adventure in itself and the perfect start to a mountain vacation.

Take a moment to stop at the various points of interest on I-70 along the way. About 20 minutes outside of Denver at Genesee Park, exit 254, lives a large herd of bison (buffalo).  You can usually see them on either side of the freeway. Between Idaho Springs and Georgetown, keep an eye out for bighorn sheep often seen on the cliffs or grazing at the side I-70.  Once you pass through the Continental Divide via the Eisenhower/Johnson tunnel, you will descend to the town of Silverthorne, with great outlet shopping.  Continue through the beautiful Officer Gulch canyon, past the Copper Mountain ski area and over Vail Pass.  There is a rest area at the top of Vail pass, elevation 10,662ft.  The pass is significantly steep on both sides with the town of Vail situated at the base of the pass on the west side.  Avon is just 9 miles further on I-70 at exit 167.

During peak summer and winter seasons, be prepared for heavy traffic on I-70 heading into the mountains Friday evenings and Saturday mornings and returning to Denver on Sunday afternoons.
